Sometimes the April fool is on us...

As we announce our engagement, the April fool could very well be on us, at least if we tried to couple it with a wedding announcement. Over the last week we've been inundated with queries as to our wedding date and location so that people could save the date. Initially we tried to plan, and looking back I could just hear God chuckling, to set it for December 31. However any date we choose is wishful thinking. Being an international, intercultural couple, who plans to spend the first few years of their marriage in the US, we have special legal hurdles to cross before we can begin planning our wedding. Most people get engaged and then they could plan the wedding. We wish it were that easy.

So he did manage to surprise me...

Our hands

We fit, a symbol of our love for each other

Travelling to Trinidad last week, I knew that Kirk was planning to propose and I knew he wanted to surprise me. So I tried not to expect it at any certain time, though I had my guesses. Knowing Kirk as well as I do, I knew he would want to make it a grand occasion with special plans...which he did...none of which worked. So needless to say, I was quite shocked when he proposed simply in his bedroom, but the story behind why it happened that way was a great testimony to Kirk's growth and commitment to me. He stopped trying to create the right moment, stopped waiting for the right moment, and just simply told me he couldn't live with out me (in so many words) and proposed! Of course, I said, "YES! I wouldn't want it any other way." And then he says, "Oh, I have something for you." :) A beautiful, brilliant ring, that he designed - an incredible symbol of his brilliant love for me and an outward sign of our commitment to each other. Then he told me all the plans that he had thought up, none of which came true...We plan, God Laughs. - An awesome story . Please pray for us as we struggle with living so far apart and planning for our future together.

She said "Yes"!

Last Monday, March 21st, I'd planned on asking Sarah to be my wife. In keeping with our theme, I planned many wonderful ways to propose to Sarah, and all of them fell through. But unlike other plans which I've made in the past I wasn't sad that they didn't work out, actually I was rather relieved that I wasn't worrying, as I was with Sarah. That's what life is like, not everything we plan will work out the way we plan it. However I knew that I could face each day of the unknown with Sarah at my side. So it gives us great pleasure to announce to our friends, family and the world - the only way Kirk knows how, using technology, that I asked Sarah Sales to become my wife, and she said, "Yes!" I'm excited... incredibly excited!
